Sloth Gets Rescued After Struggling To Cross The Road

Sloths are known for practically one thing and that’s, well their laziness.

Okay, it’s not that they are actually apathetic. These easygoing animals of the jungle simply can’t move that fast. They just appreciate taking life slowly. That means lots of sleeping, eating and crawling around the trees.

But that also means putting their lives in danger because of modern technology.

For sloths, ending up in the middle of the street can mean being unable to move quickly to miss the vehicles. In countries that have a high sloth population, it is absolutely normal to see one of these animals trying to cross the road. And sometimes these situations can lead to a traffic holdup or a car accident.

One video captured a rescue mission for a sloth that was struggling to cross the streets of Brazil.

While Jose Aldenizio was driving on the road in Angra dos Reis in Rio de Janeiro, he spotted a sloth moving languidly through the traffic. It was the busiest time of the day and people were driving like crazy. But Jose didn’t want this poor animal to suffer, so he got out of into the traffic to help.

Jose gently picked it up and carried it to a tree on the side of the road.

To the sloth, it must have seemed like he was moving as fast as a bullet train.

The most incredible thing was that when Jose placed him on the tree, the sloth turned around, gave Jose a smile, and reached out one of his clawed hands to thank him. Animals can communicate much better than we think they can!

It is almost unbelievable to see an animal who can communicate like humans.

The video went viral on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites. Everyone was touched by this adorable sloth who was willing to let himself fly over the road in the arms of a stranger.

The video was posted by Jose’s daughter, Gabrielle Araujo, who after this situation decided to become a veterinarian.

“In the midst of all the chaos in the world, a simple gesture of helping an animal can move people,” said Jose’s daughter.

A simple gesture can sometimes mean a lot – not just to the sloth whose life was saved, but everyone who witnessed Jose stepping out in the middle of the traffic to help this poor animal.

“I, as a student of veterinary medicine, have pride in my father and his care for animals, and for being able to show people that sentient animals which convey feelings and emotions deserve all our respect and right to life with dignity,” said Araujo.

Maybe this was a small gesture, but to see the kindness in Jose’s heart it’s an undescribable thing.

And judging by the thankful gesture he was given, the sloth appreciated it, too.
